History
Founded in 1922 as the YWCA of Summit, The Connection has
served Summit and surrounding communities for over 80 years
with a primary emphasis on the needs of women and their families.
Overall Purpose of Organization The Connection for Women and Families is a non-profit, women-led
organization dedicated to enhancing lives and fostering community.
The programs and services offered bring together individuals
of diverse economic circumstances, race, gender, age, sexual
orientation, culture, and physical and mental abilities to
acquire skills, build self-esteem, and, through association,
develop the respect that eliminates prejudice.
This Work Will Benefit
The Connection is dedicated to serving the community. Along
with a variety of outstanding fitness, wellness, dance and
aquatics programs, The Connection has a rich tradition of providing
much needed community service programs such as: English as
Second Language, special needs swimming and recreation, after
school enrichment, cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation and support
services for women with breast and gynecological cancers. By
serving physical rehabilitative patients, newcomers to our
country, the homeless and physically and mentally challenged
youth and adults, The Connection meets the needs of many different
constituencies not reached by other agencies.
In
addition, The Connection’s Community Service and
Scholarship Fund assures that no individual is ever turned
away from a Connection program or service because of economic
circumstances. The need for financial assistance has grown
tremendously, with The Connection distributing scholarship
assistance totaling $230,000 to more than 380 participants
in 2006.
Programs run in 10-week sessions. Day camps run in one-week
sessions from June- August. Visit www.theconnectiononline.org
for program details.
