Summit
AREA YMCA
www.summitareaymca.org Since
the Summit Area YMCA was founded in 1886, the Y has provided
health and fitness programs as an integral part of
our mission. Just as integral to that mission is providing
financial assistance, community outreach and social opportunities
for members of all ages. The Y is more than a gym. It is a
Community. People are a part of their Y for any number of reasons.
You may come to workout, play in a basketball league, or bring
your children to arts and music classes, but you’re part
of something much larger.
Overall Purpose of Organization
The
Summit Area YMCA’s mission is to
strengthen our communities by providing programs incorporating
the values
of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility that build healthy
spirit, mind and body for all.
This work will benefit
The vision of the Y is to have a positive impact on the well-being
of every member of the community.
The
Y benefits the community through its wellness resources and
programs for everyone at every age. It connects
people
to the community, it teaches life skills for today’s
youth, it is fun for everyone, and is making a difference in
our community.
The
Y’s policy is to turn no one away
for the inability to pay. Each year, the Y raises money through
the Strong Kids
Campaign to provide Y Cares Financial Assistance to kids, adults
and families so that they can participate in Y membership and
programs. The money also supports community development programs
such as Black and Latino Achievers, wellness and nutrition
lectures, and health screenings, and fitness programs on public
access TV-36.
